RESCHEDULED - MLK Day of Service - Stream Cleanup

During the last 25 years, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact has increased as more Americans embrace the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities.

Here is more about our volunteer event: 

Years ago, this area along Peter Pan Run was reforested, but plastic tree shelters were left in place. As the plastic breaks down, it is damaging soil, threatening aquatic life and inhibiting tree growth.

Last year, we removed approximatley 100 tree shelters on one side of the forest; now we will work on the other side, as the invasive honeysuckle has been minimized. 

Some of this work could be challenging, as we will be in the forest amidst blackberry bushes with thorns. Wear long-sleeved, thick clothing; boots;  protective eyewear like sunglasses; and bring gardening/work gloves if you plan to get in the thick of it. Please bring gardening clippers or scissors if you have them. 

Please either walk to the site or park at the cul de sac at the bottom of Broadstone Street and take the asphalt trail down to the path along Peter Pan Run. (The map defaults to Broadstone at the top of the hill, but please come to the bottom). 

If the ground is snow-covered, we will reschedule. 

Students can gain service hours.
